More Triumph Chopper

Set the tank, fender, oil tank and seat on to see how it'll look. The seat is pretty goofy right now. I've already stripped the cover and foam off. I'll trim the seat pan so the back is thinner and fits the fender. The new foam will be low profile and won't have the humps. Imagine narrow T bars and a sissy bar and I think I'm on the right track.

Triumph Chopper in the Works

I've been out of pocket for the past 3 months with another educational pursuit, but now that I'm back in town, it's time to hit the projects again. My last post was looking for inspiration for my Triumph and I'd said that I didn't want to do a full blown chop, but I changed my mind and I've got a kick ass little project started. Here's a pic of where it's at. The front loop is from a 1970 Triumph. The hardtail is a Factory Metal Works creation. My 73 motor will bolt right up and is out being rebuilt by Lucas at Union Motorcycles here locally. The front end is an idea from Todd at Small City Cycles in Boise. The front end is from a 69 Honda CB350. It picks up that vintage Triumph front end look without the cost of one. Todd spun up a spacer on his lathe for me to make the whole thing work together. The front wheel is also from an old Honda.

I've got a tank, seat, oil bag, and some other goodies I'll post up pretty soon.

New Triumph Inspiration

Been thinking about the next phase of my Triumph for a while now. I know I don't want to go full on chop but I need to do something. I've been digging cafes and brats lately and think I have an idea to combine the two. The guys over at Garage Company build some awesome bikes and have done a few cafes that look pretty sweet. Slammed them with rigid struts, cut off the rear frame, built cafe tails and seat pans as well as chopping the tanks and adding smaller headlights and clip-ons.

My deal is that I still want to retain the ability to throw a passenger on. Think I'll use their idea of slamming the bike but I'll build a brat style seat with a possible removable tail section. Will add a different headlight, clip-ons and leave the tank stock. Should be pretty sick.

Here's my inspiration.

POW/MIA

A lot of people don't know that we have a live POW still being held in Afghanistan. Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was captured 30 June 2009. We are coming up on the 3 year anniversary of his capture. Crossfit worldwide is doing a special WOD for Bowe on 30 June to raise money and awareness. I'll be participating here in Boise with a POW/MIA bike ride to the event. Trail 90 Freak!

Probably not many of you remember my Honda Trail 90 scooter I rebuilt a couple years ago. It's what you expect from a trail 90...stock. Not many mods out there for those little bitches but I ran across this one on bubblevisor.blogspot.com. Sick right?

Whistle Pig Carnage!

Went out Whistle Piggin a few weeks ago with Charles. We slaughtered them. Killed over 60 in 2 days. Drank some beer, camped in the Idaho desert. Rolled up on some old Dairy trucks dumped in a ditch. Tried to yank a door off, but that didn't go so well. Ended the trip on a nice sidewall blow out. Guess the 20's don't like 50mph on gravel.

For all you non Idaho people, whistle pig is just a ground squirrel. Here's a sampling of the pics, click below to see the rest.

Triumph Progress

Been stripping the triumph. Not choppin it up but just making it a cooler bike. Here are some pics. I installed a hunt magneto. With that, I tore out the whole lucas electrical system. No need for that battery anymore. Also made a bicycle pedal kicker. Turned out pretty slick and it was free! More changes to come.

I need to figure out what to do for an air cleaner. Less than an inch of clearance. Leaves my options limited. My just strap a piece of flannel over it and call it good.

Buell Results

Here's the complete Buell. Other than the wheel bearings and the breather mod, all the changes were just cosmetic. I hated the orange color so I painted the plastics and got the seat covered. Went to Big M upholstery in Meridian. He did a kick ass job on the seat. Mostly black vinyl with a carbon look black vinyl in the center. Modded the headlights to be on at the same time. That's it. Not much to do on new bikes.

Sick Iron in Boise?

Didn't think such a thing was possible

Got my tires changed on my truck yesterday and met Seth rockin this sweet Ironhead. He said that other than looking cool, it's a piece of shit. Obviously not a huge fan of the Irons. Hopefully be seeing more of it.

Little Triumph Progress

Made a few changes to the trump. Removed all the crap off the front end. Still got to lower the bike and get rid of that stupid 16" rear wheel. Guess I just need to cruise ebay to find an 18". Need to make a set of bars and pipes and I think she'll be sitting pretty.

Buell XB12X Muffler Paint

So first thing you will probably notice is the rusty muffler. This was typical for all years. Most dealerships would take it under warranty and get it ceramic coated. This thing is super thick and acts as a skid plate as well so rust would take forever to eat through it, however I don't like the way it looks. Got some high temp paint and got busy.

New Toy 2006 Buell XB12X Ulysses

Been wanting one of these for a while. Not my normal style, but I have such respect for the innovation behind the design. Less than 6000 miles on this one for $3500. Gonna be doing some mild mods but it's mainly gonna be a commuter for me. Stay tuned!

This rig is just about ready to hit the rocks. The motor ran perfect a few months ago but now it won't idle and is dripping some oil. That is the only reason I have it priced so cheap. Needs a front driveshaft. I put a TON of hours into building this rig right and I hate to get rid of it but I have to. I have over $5000 just in parts with another $2000 for the runner. Only asking $3000. If you'd like to check it out, please email or call me 2539zero615zero8

XR600 Street Tracker Update

Since I sold the street tracker, the new owner's been busy. He stripped the bike down, got stuff powdercoated black, added the fork gators, added a euro baja light. Fortunately he kept the tank and my seat work original. Hoping he will send me some more pics, but here's a preview.

More Toe Straps Done

Got a bunch of straps done. Tried to sell them at the Boise Bike Swap. Lot's of lookers but just not the right crowd.

Riding the Triumph

The old girl run's like a top! Was on the freeway the other day and she will cruise at 65 in 4th gear. Nice to have that 5th gear in reserve for really hitting some good speeds.

Super solid bike although there are a couple oil leaks. One is what you would expect. The plate on the bottom of the bike that holds the oil filter is leaking. That's just an old gasket. Easy to replace. The other leak is from the front lifter. Should be an easy fix as well.

More Double Straps Done

Had a couple orders for straps. I've kind of stayed away from light dyes in most of my leatherwork but a customer wanted yellow so I bit the bullet and did it. Turned out pretty nice. Hopefully what he wants. If not, no big deal, can just make him a new pair. Will have a booth at the Boise Bike Swap this year. Planning on selling double and single straps as well as top tube/down tube covers as well as a few other odds and ends.

Anyone want a pair, their $40 a set. If you have any unique ideas for a design in leather, I'm always experimenting, so let me know and I'll try and make it.
